"Compared to the 1994, the 1995 Châteauneuf-du-Pape exhibits more purple nuances in its deep ruby color. The fruit is sweeter, and the wine reveals more glycerin, alcohol, and tannin. It is more powerful, larger-scaled, and bigger, with good structure, and a touch of toasty vanillin (as if a new barrel or two may have been used in this wine's upbringing). The 1995 is a potentially outstanding example from Lucien Barrot, an underrated Châteauneuf-du-Pape producer whose wines remain very reasonably priced for such quality."
