"The 1980 vintage of Mayacamas Vineyards cabernet sauvignon is now fully mature and drinking beautifully. It is a very good . . . vintage for this great estate, but the wine is now at its apogee and offers up a classy and compelling bouquet of dark berries, cigar ash, espresso, herb tones, a touch of cumin and a great base of soil. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long and very complex, with fine intensity of flavor, good mid-palate depth, melting tannins, sound acids and lovely focus and delineation on the long, resolved and classy finish. Despite most of the tannins having fallen away, the 1980 Mayacamas still retains lovely acidity and grip on the backend. A fine drink for enjoying . . ."
