"I had the opportunity to taste a luxury cuvee of 100% Sangioveto that is aged in one-third new French oak barrels and bottled after one year. This wine is only released in top vintages, thus there is no 1991, 1992, or 1993 . . . . This is one of the finest wines of Tuscany. A spectacular, fully mature Sangioveto, the 1985 offers a huge nose of black fruits, Asian spices, leather, over-ripe, jammy plums, and other black fruits. Full-bodied, with a huge, sweet entry, a supple, intensely concentrated palate, and a long, rich finish, with great fruit and overall balance . . . "

Italy grows more indigenous grape varieties than any other country and produces wine in all 20 of its regions. From Piedmont's Nebbiolo to Tuscany's Sangiovese, its finest wines pair structure and bright acidity with a strong sense of place.
The heartland of Sangiovese, producing Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino and the Cabernet-influenced 'Super Tuscans' of the coast. Its wines balance bright acidity, savory structure and cellar-worthiness.
Tuscany's signature red, giving high-acid, savory wines of sour cherry, herbs and firm tannin. It is the backbone of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscans.
