"The 2017 les Chaffots also has a bit of whole clusters in it this year, in this case twenty-five percent. This seems to be one of the best young examples of Chaffots I have had the pleasure to taste from the Lignier family, as the wine soars from the glass in a fine aromatic blend of red and black cherries, vinesmoke, venison, a very complex base of soil, mustard seed, stem spice and a bit of cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and quite sappy at the core, with excellent focus and balance, ripe tannins and a long, poised and very promising finish. Chaffots is not always the most elegant premier cru out of the blocks, but this is not the case with this very refined 2017 version." |
