"The 2015 Vouvray “les Girardières” from Bernard Fouquet is the estate’s Demi-Sec, though this no longer appears on the label. I found it interesting that the le Petit Clos Sec this year is sealed under natural cork, but the les Girardières is under screwcap. The wine is not yet showing any off aromatics from reduction, but is far less expressive on the nose than the le Petit Clos, tentatively offering up scents of apple, quince, lanolin and chalky soil tones. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, crisp and nicely plumped up with a glaze of residual sugar, with a fine core, lovely soil signature and very good grip on the long and classy finish. This has the depth and inherent balance to last very long in bottle, but under this closure, I really have no idea how long it is going to survive. But, it is really delicious out of the blocks and not hard to drink in its stylish adolescence. Decant it now, to jump start the bouquet blossoming." |
