Pre-Arrival: Aged and ready to drink wines Ex-Château from Bordeaux - Can't beat the provenance!
Arrives August 2012
One of the recent great success stories in Bordeaux is that of Hélène Garcin who
has been producing any number of superb wines at her estates in St. Émilion
(Château Barde-Haut), Pomerol (Clos l'Eglise) and Pessac-Léognan (Château Haut
Bergey). Winemaking is a family affair chez Garcin as Hélène's mother; Sylviane
Garcin-Cathiard, is related to the Cathiard family of Château Smith
Haut-Lafitte.
In addition to the incredible wines emanating from these
estates, Hélène makes a very special wine at Château Branon which is also
located in Pessac-Léognan. Blended utilizing a large percentage of Merlot, this
luxury cuvée is just that. Rich, unctuous and velvety smooth, annual production
of this gem is limited to roughly 500 cases. Under her guidance, this ancient
property, one of the oldest in all of Bordeaux, has been restored to the level
of grandeur it enjoyed throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Hélène and her
husband Patrick have also recently embarked on a winemaking project in Argentina
and this venture has been received warmly by journalists around the globe with
many positive critical reviews and numerous high scores.
Hélène is both conscientious and astute in providing the
contemporary Bordeaux consumer fairly priced wines that are juicy, rich and
fruit laden while still reflecting, in uncompromising fashion, the terroirs
whence they originate. Her wines are perennial Parker faves and garner top
scores and favorable reviews from many other prestigious publications such as
Wine Spectator and La Revue du Vin de France. Don't pass up this opportunity to
procure some of her high-scoring wines procured directly from Bordeaux.

Château Haut Bergey 2005
"One of the finest under-the-radar estates in Pessac-Leognan, Haut-Bergey's 2005 (a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot) offers up aromas of scorched earth, wet stones, burning embers, charcoal, and copious black currant and cherry fruit. The sumptuous bouquet is accompanied by a full-bodied wine displaying dazzling purity, sweet tannin, and a long, opulent finish. This beauty will be drinkable at a relatively early age for a 2005. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025."

Château Barde-Haut 2005
"A tasty, opulent 2005 from proprietress Helene Garcin, this sexy wine exhibits a dense ruby/purple color followed by a sweet bouquet of licorice, black cherries, blackberries, oak, and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, opulent, fleshy, and disarming, it will drink well in 2-3 years, and should age for 12-15. By the way, I have recently begun sampling my 1998 Barde-Haut, which is just emerging from its adolescent stage. It, too, is a beauty!"

Château Barde-Haut 2008
"Fruity, soft and fully mature, the 2008 Barde-Haut offers up notes of licorice, roasted herbs, cedar and spice. Medium-bodied with an evolved, endearing character, it should be enjoyed over the next 5-6 years."

"A sleeper of the vintage, the dense ruby/purple-tinged 2008 Branon displays chocolatey, earthy undertones intermixed with black currants and Asian plum sauce. Medium to full-bodied, rich, impressively endowed, supple and evolved, it can be drunk over the next 10-12 years."

Château Clos L'eglise 2001
"The 2001 offers a huge spectrum of aromas, including notes of smoke, mocha, chocolate, coffee, and loads of blackberry, cherry, and currant fruit. The superb aromatics are followed by an elegant, medium-bodied, deliciously supple-textured, expansive, fleshy, beautifully pure, well-delineated Pomerol. It is a brilliant effort as well as one of the candidates for the wine of the appellation in 2001. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2014."

It can be drunk now and over the next 10-12 years. Kudos to proprietress Helene Garcin and winemaking consultant Dr. Alain Raynaud."
