"The 1998 Palmer is a blend of 52% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. It is a wine that I have tasted three or four time though not since 2011. Thomas Duroux did not make this wine since he debuted in 2004, although he mentioned that it is one of his favourite vintages of this decade. I would agree. It has developed a very charming bouquet that is equidistant between primary and secondary aromas: blackberry, raspberry, cedar, crushed violet, leather and clove all beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity and satisfying red fruit laced with black tea, clove, white pepper and just a hint of hung game. There is more freshness here than many of its peers and it just articulates Palmer with more clarity than other vintages during this era. At 20 years this Palmer has really blossomed.
