96 NM. "What an exquisite 1993 from the late Philippe Engel. I would love to compare this directly with his brilliant Grands Echezeaux because this seems on par. From the bright, vivacious, pure and utterly elegant bouquet to the shimmering crystalline palate, this is what mature Pinot Noir is all about. The tannins are filigree, the precision sensational, the primary fruit still in situ but complemented by a profound mineral edge. Utterly exquisite and on this occasion, served alongside no less than Rousseau’s Chambertin and Clos St. Jacques, several attendees regarded this was wine of the night." Wine Advocate #209, Oct 2013 |
