96+ JG. "The ’99 Rousseau Bèze is a terrific bottle of wine . . . . The nose is deep and complex, soaring from the glass in a mélange of sappy black cherries, plums, orange rind, woodsmoke, a bit of meat, earth, dark chocolate and toasty new oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, lush and opulent, with fine depth at the core, impeccable balance, moderate tannins, and excellent length and grip on the complex finish. This is a dynamite bottle of wine that will be hard to resist in its youth, but should deliver a much more complete picture with another seven to ten years of bottle age. But bury it deep, as it will be a temptation its whole life." John Gilman, View From the Cellar, Bonus Articles, 1999 Red Burgundy in the Bottle |
