94 RP. "Anyone who has tasted the 1998 Lirac Cuvee de la Reine des Bois knows the great heights this cuvee can reach. The 2001 Lirac Cuvee de la Reine des Bois may be even better. It could easily hold its own in a tasting of top-flight Chateauneuf du Papes. A blend of equal parts Syrah, Grenache, and Mourvedre (all from 40-year old vines) aged in oak, foudre, and tank, the 2001 boasts an opaque purple color as well as a gorgeously thick, juicy nose of blackberry and cherry liqueur, spice box, licorice, earth, and a hint of pepper. It is a loaded, opulent, lush, intellectual and hedonistic turn-on from the southern Rhone." Wine Advocate #147, Jun 2003 |
