Lot #1337. Gruaud-Larose 1970

Description: Consists of 24 Half Bottles, 0.375L
Score: 92 JG.
"I have had a number of truly excellent examples of the 1970 Gruaud over the last ten years . . . . based on the many bottles I have tasted of this wine over the years, along with this most recent bottle that remained very good despite its imperfect closure, can recommend this vintage of Gruaud quite highly. The bouquet on this particular bottle (which built broadened significantly as it had a chance to breath) offered up a complex mélange of roasted cassis, dark berries, woodsmoke, earth, tobacco smoke, truffles and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and complex, with a fine core, and great length and grip on the complex, meltingly tannic and powerful finish. The ’70 Gruaud is still a wine with decades of life ahead of it, and remains one of my favorite vintages for this château. This particular bottle merited 92 points, and pristine bottles would merit a couple of points even higher. " View From the Cellar, Jul/Aug 2006, Issue #4
