95 WA. "In addition to his single vineyard efforts, Tensley produces two special bottlings, both released only in Magnum and named after each of two kids. A blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache (from Colson Canyon and Rodney’s Vineyard), the 2011 BMT is flat-out gorgeous with its brambly, complex bouquet of peppered meat, olive tapenade, underbrush, plum and wild flowers. Full-bodied, mouth-filling and voluptuously textured, it is a thrilling drink and will evolve gracefully . . . . One of the rising superstars in California, Joey Tensley continues to focus on single vineyard Syrahs and Rhone blends from Santa Barbara County. All of the wines are treated identically in the cellar and see just under a year in neutral oak (the Colson Canyon sees a small amount of new oak). They show their origin beautifully and have distinctive, unique personalities. In addition, they age beautifully and continue to be offered at fantastic prices. In short, don’t miss these wines."
