93 JG. "The 2000 Verset Cornas was opened up to pair with the 1999 Chave, and much to everyone at the table’s surprise the Verset was the deeper, fresher and more complete wine. The nose is deep and still quite youthful, offering up a bright mélange of black raspberry, black olive, green peppercorns, some medicinal syrah tones, hot stones, hints of the game to come and a distinct topnote of violets. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and rock solid at the core, with excellent length and a moderate bit of ripe, well-covered perking up the long finish. It is still early days for this fine wine, but its overall balance and harmony made for a much better drink than the dry and modestly endowed 1999 Chave lined up with it."
